Big Business Taking Over

When big business aka corporations become involved in veterinary practices and operate a chain of clinics, there is greater tendency to be greedy because the operation is run by businessmen and accountants. In addition, combining a business with the health and welfare of animals and in truth the two do not go together well as business professionals do what any other business profession does- to gain the most money they can from their skills and services of workers. When you are treating patients and selling veterinary treatments the health of the patient is in question under these circumstances of prioritizing financial reward, which is arguably unethical.

It is getting harder to track and count what each company owns. Since June, many hospital groups have changed their websites to make counting hospitals more difficult. Several groups have different counts in different parts of their websites. Several groups provide no easy way to discover which hospitals they own.

Large groups continue to change hands and look for larger sources of capital. Causing confusion has to what corporation owns what. Compassion First has flipped to JAB , which owns Krispy Crème and Dr. Pepper, to name just a few of its companies. Lastly, as independent vet clinic owners sell to big business, it will only make it harder to hold bad vets accountable for their actions. As now we will be going up against not only the AVMA but huge corporations such as Mars, who have the best attorneys money can buy.
